New Zealand Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality Start 8i has just received $27 million in Series B financing, Time Warner led the investment, Baidu and other investment. This is the first investment project that Baidu Ventures has completed since its establishment in September last year.

In this year's GDC booth, 8i used holographic technology to project the astronaut Buzz Aldrin on the Moon Apollo 11 to greet people through holograms.

The 3D holographic image displayed this time uses a test version of the Holo App. The company plans to officially launch the final consumer version of the Holo App based on Google Tango at the end of 2017 to apply 3D portrait technology to mobile devices.

According to 8i's introduction, this application will provide an innovative way for celebrities in the entertainment, music, and sports industries to engage and communicate with their audiences, thus promoting the creation of new formats of UGC content.
