Implementing a PM2.5/Dust/Particle Detector Using the Ginkgo Adapter

With growing awareness of air quality, people are increasingly concerned about the air conditions in their own living spaces, including the concentration of particulate matter such as dust. To address this need, we have developed a dust concentration detector using the GP2Y1050AU0F sensor combined with a Ginkgo adapter. The sensor provides two types of output signals: serial communication and analog voltage. This allows us to utilize both the UART and ADC functions of the Ginkgo platform for accurate dust detection. Below is the internal function diagram of the sensor:

Additionally, here is a reference table showing the relationship between the sensor’s analog voltage output and the corresponding dust concentration levels:

Using this table, you can determine the current dust concentration by either measuring the analog voltage or analyzing the serial port data. The following image shows the user interface designed for the Ginkgo adapter:

In this interface, the program simultaneously captures both the analog voltage and serial data, displaying them as two separate curves for real-time monitoring. When using the analog voltage output, it is recommended to add a low-pass filter to reduce noise and measurement errors. Without filtering, the readings may be inaccurate. However, if you use the serial port data, this issue is less likely to occur. Here is the physical connection setup for the sensor:
