CeraPad?: Ultra-thin substrate with integrated ESD protection

In the realm of smartphones and automotive electronics, ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protection technology is continuously evolving to meet the growing demand for compact, reliable, and safe electronic systems. CeraPad not only reduces the size of standard chip component packages (CSPs), from CSP1515 down to CSP0707, but also ensures excellent thermal performance. CeraPad is based on low-temperature sintered ZnO ceramic technology, offering high precision and reliability. Its coefficient of thermal expansion (6ppm/mK) closely matches that of LEDs, minimizing mechanical stress during temperature fluctuations. This feature ensures long-term stability and performance, even under demanding conditions. Compared to traditional Zener diodes, CeraPad provides significantly higher ESD protection—up to 25kV, which is more than three times the level offered by conventional solutions. Additionally, its thickness ranges from 300 to 400 micrometers, yet it delivers thermal conductivity of up to 22 W/mK—over three times better than standard substrates. The design of CeraPad allows for flexible contact pad configurations, supporting both SAC (Sn/Ag/Cu) reflow and eutectic soldering processes. The multi-layer structure of CeraPad enables the integration of functional circuits within the ceramic layers, opening new possibilities for complex LED arrays. Unlike traditional matrix LEDs that typically use multiple dual LEDs in series, CeraPad supports the control of hundreds of individual LED sources. This makes it perfect for applications such as high-resolution smartphone flashlights or adaptive automotive headlights.
