Melexis Introduces New High Precision Pressure Sensors for Demanding Automotive Applications

Melexis has launched a new high-precision pressure sensor, the MLX90818, designed specifically for challenging media applications in the automotive industry. This innovative device is ideal for use in naturally aspirated, direct injection, and turbocharged engines, offering exceptional performance in demanding environments. The MLX90818 is a factory-calibrated absolute pressure sensor with a measurement range of 1.0 to 5.5 bar. It comes in a compact 4mm x 5mm DFN package, making it the smallest device of its kind on the market. The sensor includes an NTC signal processing channel for temperature compensation, reducing the need for external components and simplifying integration for OEMs developing intake manifold pressure (MAP) sensors. One of the key advantages of the MLX90818 is its resistance to corrosive environments, as it doesn’t contain any corrodible metals. This makes it particularly suitable for modern, lightweight engines operating in harsh conditions, including those exposed to halogen environments. Additionally, the sensor can withstand up to 18V overvoltage and operates reliably across a wide temperature range of -40°C to +150°C, making it ideal for under-hood applications. With a pressure accuracy of ±0.5% to ±0.75% over its lifetime at 150°C, the MLX90818 is well-suited for high-precision MAP and EGR sensor applications. Its advanced design helps reduce NOx emissions and CO2 output, supporting the development of cleaner and more efficient vehicles. The sensor’s output is fully compatible with the J2716 SENT protocol, enabling quick and easy configuration to meet various customer requirements. Melexis also offers factory calibration for the MLX90818, while small batch users can customize the device using application pins and Melexis-proven software tools.
