In a significant step toward digital transformation, Guangdong Esquel Textile Co., Ltd. and PricewaterhouseCoopers have jointly launched the first RPA (Robotic Process Automation) customs robot, specifically designed for export customs clearance. This innovative solution has revolutionized the process by automating all customs operations, reducing the average processing time by 90% and significantly enhancing the efficiency of enterprise declarations.
Feng Qilu, head of the customs robot project at Esquel Textile, explained that in the past, customs procedures involved multiple steps such as declaration, inspection, and taxation, requiring extensive documentation like import/export forms, invoices, and verification reports. The manual collection and summarization of these documents were labor-intensive and time-consuming. With the introduction of the RPA robot, tasks such as data collection, document generation, report verification, and tax filing are now automated based on predefined logic rules. This not only reduces repetitive work but also improves data accuracy and frees up staff from heavy workloads.
The deployment of this robot is just one example of how companies in Gaoming District are leveraging technology to boost productivity. More and more smart enterprises are adopting industrial robots, cloud computing, and big data solutions to enhance their production intelligence and streamline operations.
According to the Economic and Technological Promotion Bureau of Gaoming District, over 40 large enterprises have already implemented robotic systems, with more than 400 robot applications in use across the region. For instance, a manipulator at Wanhe Electric Sheet Metal Works has replaced five human workers, while Anwara Ceramics uses a robotic arm for glazing and polishing, cutting the pottery molding time from 24 hours to just 27 minutes.
To support businesses in upgrading their technological capabilities, Gaoming has established a three-tiered mechanism involving districts, towns, and enterprises. By streamlining the approval process for industrial technology upgrades, the time required for a company to complete the filing and obtain approval has been reduced to just two working days. As a result, from January to November 2017, Gaoming's industrial enterprises invested a total of 4.435 billion yuan in technological transformation, representing a 55.3% year-on-year increase.
In addition, Gaoming has focused on fostering innovation by promoting R&D institutions for enterprises with over 500 million yuan in annual revenue. The number of high-tech enterprises in the region has reached 112, and there are now 267 engineering and technology research centers. Guangdong Yida Textile was named among the "Top 100 Innovative Enterprises in China 2017," making it the only company from Foshan to be listed. Guangdong Esquel has also ranked among Foshan’s top ten patent holders for three consecutive years, securing the top spot twice.
