With the rapid advancement of technology, urban modernization is accelerating, and the demand for efficient road and city lighting systems is growing. This has led to an increasing energy supply-demand gap, making energy-saving and environmentally friendly lighting solutions more urgent than ever. Traditional manual or clock-based control systems are no longer sufficient to meet current needs. As a result, wireless streetlight control systems have become essential. Smart and automated urban lighting management not only improves efficiency but also brings significant economic and social benefits, playing a crucial role in modern municipal infrastructure.
This article presents the design of a wireless streetlight control system aimed at enhancing urban lighting efficiency through intelligent automation. The system consists of several key components: terminal control nodes, a central monitoring system, and routing nodes that facilitate communication between the control center and the streetlights. The hardware architecture includes a PC module, a wireless transceiver, LED power drivers, sensors for light and temperature, and a wireless communication module. These elements work together to monitor and control the operation of streetlights in real time.
The remote monitoring network combines Zigbee and GPRS technologies to ensure wide coverage and reliable communication. While Zigbee has a limited range, it is used within localized subnets where each subnet manages several hundred streetlights. The central control center communicates with these subnets via GPRS, allowing for efficient data transmission across the entire city. This hybrid network structure ensures both scalability and reliability.
The system offers substantial economic benefits. By integrating LED technology and wireless control, it reduces energy consumption, extends the lifespan of lighting equipment, and lowers maintenance costs. Additionally, the wireless network is designed for high reliability, ensuring that even if some nodes fail, the system can still operate effectively. A failure rate of less than 5% is achievable, making this solution both practical and sustainable for future urban development.
