Linde: On-site ammonia gasification solution helps customers reduce cost structure

1. What breakthrough did Linde make in technological innovation or market development last year?

Linde has developed on-site ammonia vaporization solutions and precursors for organometallics such as TMGa for LED and semiconductor wafer fabrication processes. We continue to work with our customers and industry leaders to develop specific solutions for their processes. Linde hopes that through such development, it can help customers improve the stability of the process and make the utilization rate of the precursor higher than the traditional method, so that a purer film can be made.


2. Which application will dominate the development of LED?

The following applications may lead LED development in the next few years:

i) The demand for LED backlighting applications in notebook computers and flat panel TVs has grown. Although this growth is constrained by the pricing of suitable LED display backlight modules compared to conventional CCFL backlight modules, the industry has given strong growth expectations for the sector in 2010 and 2011.

Ii) Mature application areas such as GM and street lighting still have some growth in the short and medium term, and this growth is mainly driven by government regulations and enterprise projects.


3. What is missing when the LED industry begins to enter the mature industry?

Indeed, the LED industry has been around for a long time; however, as various technical problems require time to gradually improve, its development has been limited to a certain stage, and a large number of patented technologies that can be used for mass production (with major breakthroughs) ) are concentrated in a limited number of LED manufacturers. At the same time, like other emerging technologies, in order to replace traditional products, the application of LEDs to new technologies depends on whether they can achieve certain cost-effectiveness, in order to fully demonstrate the advantages of technology and environmental protection. In order to promote the rapid development of the LED industry, it is very necessary for the LED industry to obtain strong support from international and government policies for energy-saving applications for LEDs.


4. What challenges and opportunities does your company face in the current financial crisis?

As a leading gas and engineering company, Linde is encouraged by the positive changes in the new energy policy. Linde understands the importance of carefully managing the crisis and takes all necessary steps to ensure that our customers benefit from our actions in the early stages of their production. At the same time, we recognize that the key is to expose our customers to cutting-edge technologies and to help them reduce costs over the long term. For customers who have already produced on a large scale, it is no small challenge to certify new solutions, so this is a good time for Linde to arrange timetables with customers to verify the availability of the solution.


5. What plans does Linde have in the Chinese market in the coming year?

Linde is committed to helping our customers reduce their cost structure in a sustainable way. Linde's ultra-high-purity ammonia plant (key material for LED crystal manufacturing) invested in Xiamen will be put into operation in 2010. Ammonia is also widely used in the fields of liquid crystal display, solar energy and semiconductors. About our on-site ammonia vaporization solution, we believe it can help customers reduce costs and improve supply stability on site. In our development, we are trying to balance the different needs from various industries and develop customized solutions, while at the same time meeting the basic applications of other industries. At the same time, Linde will continue to invest in sustainable development programs so that customers can get support from our cutting-edge technology and prepare for the market when the economy recovers.
