Universal motors and shaded induction motors are easily controlled with a full-wave triac controller. Q1 combines the two-way thyristor and the two-terminal AC switch in one container. The motor acts as a load and the current cannot exceed 6A. Q1 must be equipped with a heat sink. Using component values, the triac can control motor speed from zero speed to full speed.
