Recently, according to reports from foreign media like Engadget, LG is set to unveil what could be the world's largest and highest-resolution OLED display. This development marks a significant step forward in the evolution of high-end display technology.
With 4K resolution and HDR now becoming the standard in the market, LG Display has been pushing the boundaries with its OLED 8K technology. The company will showcase an 88-inch 8K-resolution OLED screen at this year’s CES. This new model is currently the largest and highest-resolution OLED panel ever introduced, setting a new benchmark in the industry.
Previously, the largest OLED panel was a 77-inch 4K model also introduced by LG Display. While other companies like Sony and Panasonic have used these panels, they are all sourced from LG Display. This highlights LG's dominant position in the large-format OLED market.
Meanwhile, Samsung, LG's main competitor, has shifted its focus towards QLED technology, leaving LG as the sole major manufacturer of large-sized OLED panels. Despite this shift, Samsung still holds a strong position in the small-size OLED market, particularly due to its supply of panels for the iPhone X. As a result, Samsung continues to dominate the small OLED segment, holding over 60% of the market share.
This strategic move by LG not only strengthens its position in the premium display market but also signals its long-term commitment to OLED innovation. With the growing demand for ultra-high-definition content, LG's latest offering is likely to attract attention from both consumers and industry experts alike.
