Recently, the grand finale of the 10th National College Student Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Science and Technology Competition took place at North China Electric Power University. Among the many innovative entries, the "Human Body Temperature Difference Self-Generation Indicator Helmet" project from Zhongke University stood out, securing the coveted special award.
This project was spearheaded by Lu Song, a PhD candidate from the School of Engineering at the University of Science and Technology of China. As Lu Song explained, the core of their submissions revolves around integrating thermoelectric power generation technology with human thermal motion properties. Inside the helmet lies a semiconductor thermoelectric power generation chip, while an LED indicator light is embedded within to serve as a turn signal. By harnessing the temperature difference between the human body and the surrounding environment, the LED lights are powered, offering both safety and energy-saving benefits. Additionally, the helmet ensures thermal comfort, combining practicality with environmental consciousness. At this year's 45th Geneva International Invention Exhibition, their team was awarded the gold medal for the "Wearable Thermoelectric Power Safety Indicator System." Moving forward, the team is exploring opportunities to commercialize this project by seeking investment and potentially partnering with shared bicycle companies, aiming to introduce it in the form of a shared helmet.
The national competition on energy conservation and emission reduction, organized by the Ministry of Education's Department of Higher Education, has been held annually since 2008, making it a prestigious event for students across the country.
