Pipeline Water Online Detector
I. Project Background
In the petroleum and petrochemical industry, monitoring the water content in oil pipelines is a critical task. Traditional methods such as sampling and distillation, as well as radioactive techniques, have been widely used. The distillation method involves taking oil samples from the pipeline and analyzing them in the lab after distillation. While this method is highly accurate, it is offline and suffers from significant time delays. On the other hand, the radioactive method detects changes in radiation levels caused by the presence of water and oil. This approach allows for continuous online monitoring but requires direct contact with the fluid and pre-installed mounting points, limiting its flexibility. In many industrial scenarios, especially in petrochemicals, there is a growing need for fast and efficient on-line water detection that current methods struggle to meet.
II. Product Overview
This advanced instrument utilizes non-contact ultrasonic technology to detect water content in pipelines. Although it may not fully meet all national standard accuracy requirements, its ease of installation and rapid response make it ideal for real-time monitoring in the petrochemical industry.
The front sensor features a movable hoop design, allowing it to adapt to pipes of various diameters. The detection unit is equipped with a touch screen interface, offering an intuitive user experience and enabling quick setup for online water content monitoring.
The system can be programmed to trigger alarms when water content exceeds set thresholds. It provides real-time graphs of water content fluctuations, stores test data for later retrieval, and supports communication with computers for data analysis and waveform output.

IV. Application Examples
Monitoring the Handover Process at a Crude Oil Station in a PetroChina Production Plant

V. Field Applications
1. Before crude oil is pumped into a refinery, it is essential to check the water content in the pipeline to prevent unexpected "water hammer" accidents caused by high water content.
2. During the transfer of oil products, tanker trucks can monitor water content in real time while loading or unloading, ensuring oil quality remains within acceptable limits.
3. In situations where quick verification of the relative proportion of two liquids in a pipeline is required, this device offers a fast and reliable solution.
