Project Description

The project is located at the intersection of Tianjin Yijing Road and Liuwei Road, east of the eleventh road, south of Liuwei Road, west of Shijing Road, north of Qiwei Road, the starting point of the COFCO Tianjin Liuwei Road Project. The total land area is 9165.15 square meters. 

The Experience Center combines urban exhibition halls, art galleries and cultural centers to showcase the character and quality of the area. As an important urban space node, it is positioned as a brand franchise store representing “urban living room, city business card, city identity” to create high-quality urban public space.

The main curtain wall of the building is double-glazed curtain wall system, white glazed glass on the outside and dark LOW-E coated glass on the inner layer. The glaze pattern is in a radial white dot layout. The large-area double-glazed curtain wall system has become the focus and difficulty of the lighting design. The first and second floor facades of the building are made of dark gray fire-fired granite, which adopts the dry hanging structure of the stone.

Innovations in lighting design concepts, methods, etc.:

The COFCO Experience Center is an important building node on the edge of the Tianjin Haihe River. How to integrate lighting and building curtain wall features, how to combine advanced lighting technology with art, how to better save energy is the focus of this lighting.

The experience center building has a unique curtain wall structure design, which is the soul of the architectural design. The superposition of double-layer white glazed glass allows people to see different density patterns at different angles, and this pattern is exactly the COGO of COFCO.

The original concept of lighting design is not complicated, “using a hint of blue water to express the delicate texture of the Haihe River”.

The real design challenge is "a practically difficult solution." The repeated consultations between the lighting and the architects, the curtain wall company, the laboratory aids, and the adjustments made to the lighting by the curtain wall finally achieved the desired results.

Practical difficulties in lighting

(1) The curtain wall is transparent and lacks the background of the face. The interior of the building is mostly a shared space, and it is not convenient to set curtains and the like as the illuminated surface of the illumination. Therefore, the lighting should only express the building by the brightness of the white glaze.

(2) The unit module is large and the height is 2.07 meters. The height of the façade of each floor is only 3.5 units, which is difficult to form a rich illustration.

(3) The installation position of the lamps is limited. The exterior of the building is clean and the environment is elegant. No external auxiliary facilities are allowed.

2. Use the facts of light to prove -

Lighting design uses a large number of luminaire experiments to assist owners, architects, and façade companies in determining the details.

(1) Selection of lamp position.

When the luminaires are respectively located on the inner side, the outer side and the middle of the double-layer façade, the effects can be visually seen. The best way to obtain a balanced glaze is to locate the luminaire in the middle.

(2) Changes to the curtain wall side panels.

The height of the curtain wall unit module is 2.07 meters, and the installation distance of the lamps is strictly limited. The side panels of the original building curtain wall are made of black material, the reflectivity is low, the brightness of the glaze of the glass curtain wall is fast and the fainting is not uniform, and the lighting design is recommended to be changed to light gray, which is greatly improved. Uniformity ensures the integrity of the texture.

The lighting design also proposes the detachability of the side panels to ensure the convenient maintenance of the lamps.

(3) The decision of the illumination color and the way of change.

LED lighting is used in the lighting design. The owner believes that unlimited color changes and pattern changes can be obtained. RGB lamps should be used. However, this is not consistent with the original concept of lighting. The designer persuaded the owner that “all-round” is not the most suitable for the changes in the experiment. The faint blue color is the function and the demand of the building.

In view of the small number of unit modules, the delicate change is not the curtain wall unit block, but the entire façade as the background, and the 10cm unit of the luminaire as the module can be refined.

Energy saving measures in lighting design:

(1) Mode control

The whole project passes the total intelligent control system, built-in different control modes and three-level line design to reasonably control the light-on time and reduce energy consumption; the mode is divided into three types: weekday mode, festival mode and major holidays.

(2) Selection of light source and lamp

Energy-saving light source and high-efficiency light fixture are used in the design to ensure energy saving. Most of the LED light source is used to achieve the lighting effect. According to the needs of the site, a reasonable light distribution angle is selected to increase the utilization of the light and reduce the number of lamps.

What new technologies, new materials, new equipment, and new processes are used in the design:

The lighting design requirements of the COFCO Experience Center are closely integrated with the positioning of “urban living room, city business card and city identity”. The positioning of the building requires a high degree of detail of the lighting, and it is required to reduce the presence of the lamps as much as possible so that the lights are not visible. The lighting of the curtain wall is a good example of this. Because the interior and exterior installations of the curtain wall have a greater impact on the daytime landscape, it is finally decided that the fixtures are installed between the double-layer curtain walls with a spacing of 450 mm. How does such a small space solve the post-maintenance, and How to avoid high temperature and reduce the life of the lamp is two major problems. It has been coordinated with the architect and the curtain wall design many times. By replacing the fixed partition between the curtain wall modules with the movable partition, the maintenance personnel can ensure the maintenance of the lamp; Ventilation equipment reduces the temperature inside the curtain wall and extends the life of the LED lamp. The selection of LED high-quality chips and the special design of light distribution play a big role in improving the lighting quality.

From each curtain wall structure as an independent pixel, through the control system to achieve a variety of patterns, the overall flow of lighting effects. The use of large-scale LED technology, the design of various control modes, and the strict light distribution design require energy-saving purposes. After completion, the experience center lighting effect is quickly remembered by the public and given the "Tianjin Xiaoshui Cube". The reputation has achieved the goal of creating important urban space nodes, beautiful lighting effects and diverse dynamic modes, giving people a variety of visual enjoyment.

What environmental safety measures are used in lighting design:

(1) Prevention and control of light pollution

The COFCO Experience Center selects high-efficiency luminaires and rigorously designs the lamp position and projection angle. The lamps are narrow-angled and equipped with anti-glare grille or stretch lens. Try to control the light in the illuminated area to avoid pedestrians and indoors. Visual disturbance of the staff.

(2) Lighting safety measures

Reasonable determination of power supply and distribution load level, and the use of independent distribution lines, lighting with a calculation coefficient of 1, the power supply radius of 300 ~ 400m, partition, system automatic time control, etc., while assisting manual control.
