The Five Major Movement Mechanisms of Practical Mobile VR

In the PC-side virtual reality experience similar to HTC Vive, its movement mechanism is more abundant. For example, only Vive controllers have reported multiple solutions. However, on the mobile side, although the current exercise mechanism is not yet very rich, but there are many practical and feasible. The following are the five major motion mechanisms in current mobile VR.

Transport array

In the transport array system, you have a transport matrix that is rendered in the form of an animated cursor. When watching this animated cursor, then you will move here. What it can do is activate nearby transfer points

2. Navigation grid

The navigation grid is based on these terrains, slopes, and valleys. It will be equipped with terrain colliders and walking surfaces. On the walkable surface, you look elsewhere, and then you touch the touchpad button and you walk in that direction. So when you are exercising, even if you look around, the character will still move toward the point you first clicked.

3. Bluetooth controller

The Bluetooth solution is not universal. It uses the default Unity horizontal and vertical joystick input methods to support most controllers. For example, lateral movement will allow you to move left and right, and when you press the forward button, you can move back and forth. Turn the head again to move in the opposite direction. However, there are many different controllers with different input mechanisms. There is no guarantee that you can support your Bluetooth controller.

4. Automatic walking

Walk automatically, just when you tap the touch panel button, you will start walking. And when you are walking, if you turn your head, you will go in that direction, and then you will stop walking when you touch the button again.

5. Low rise walking

Look-Walk is a common movement mechanism in mobile VR. When you wear your head and look down, you walk. When you look up, you stop walking.
