QNX launches a new automotive safety program for ISO 26262

The project aims to help QNX customers build digital dashboards and ADAS systems that comply with ISO 26262

Shanghai, August 26, 2013- QNX Software System Co., Ltd., a global leader in in-vehicle electronic software platforms, recently launched a new QNX automotive safety project for the ISO 26262 standard. The new project aims to accelerate the development of digital instrument clusters, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), window head-up displays and other products with functional safety requirements, and help automotive companies use the mature certification and safety-critical systems of QNX software systems And automotive software design capabilities.

ISO 26262 is an international standard for the safety life cycle of electronic, electrical and software components of passenger cars. ISO 26262 is derived from the IEC 61508 standard and is used to assess the risk of hazardous operating conditions and set safety measures to reduce the risk of failure.

QNX provides automotive safety projects for ISO 26262 standards with QNX customers the safety information needed to build an ISO 26262 system. The key elements include a sample safety example based on the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS safety kernel, guidelines for safety-critical design of real-time operating systems, and the use of typical functional safety requirements based on QNX Automotive SEooC (Safety Element out of Context). SEooC is Pre-qualified safety elements that can be developed without knowledge of specific automotive systems.

The solution also provides a set of professional services from the QNX software system, including priority support, training on recommended operations for building functional safety systems, and in-depth QNX® OS training for engineers. QNX Software Systems will also consult participants of the program to resolve their system requirements. The project has great flexibility and can provide customized services for customers with different levels of expertise in operating system technology and functional safety.

Grant Courville, Director of Product Management at QNX, said: "QNX software systems have a 30-year history in critical safety systems, ranging from nuclear plants to space shuttles, and have proven capabilities in IEC 61508 and IEC 62304 standards and certification. This expertise is complemented by our achievements in hundreds of automotive production projects, making QNX an ideal operating system partner for companies that build digital dashboards and ADAS systems with functional safety requirements. "

Security ecosystem

To meet customer requirements for different aspects of functional safety, the QNX software system also builds a supplier ecosystem that provides complementary processors, tool chains, graphics technology, and consulting for safety-critical systems. To date, heavyweight companies in the industry such as Elektrobit, Freescale, Nvidia, and Texas Instruments have supported the QNX automotive safety program for the ISO 26262 standard-these companies have the same reputation with QNX software companies in the high-profile entertainment information product projects Cooperation and actively participate in production projects with safety requirements.

Elektrobit functional safety consultant manager Florian Bogenberger said: "We are very pleased to see QNX software systems bring their functional safety expertise to digital instruments and other automotive systems that need to meet ISO 26262 standards. QNX provides for ISO 26262 automotive safety projects 'S services and products provide an ideal complement to Elektrobit products. Elektrobit is actively expanding safety-critical automotive projects, and we are also looking forward to strong cooperation with QNX in this regard. "

Dan Loop, business development manager for Freescale ’s automotive microprocessors, said: “As the design complexity of digital instrument clusters, driver assistance components and other automotive systems increases rapidly, the demand for functional safety certification also increases. We are very It ’s great to see the QNX software system launch this project, leveraging its deep experience in automotive systems and certification to help our common automotive customers pass the stringent requirements of ISO 26262 certification. "

Taner Ozcelik, General Manager of Nvidia ’s Automotive Division, said, “QNX software system is an important automotive partner of Nvidia. Together we have provided Audi, Volkswagen and Bentley with very successful manufacturing projects. The QNX automotive safety project marks the beginning of our partnership A new stage allows us to integrate a new level of in-vehicle graphics and functionality while meeting high-level safety requirements. "

Curt Moore, General Manager of Texas Instruments Application Processors, said: "We are very excited to support the new QNX automotive safety project for ISO 26262, which is a perfect complement to Texas Instruments' functional safety expertise and TI â„¢ -26262 safety-certified components . For more than a decade, QNX and Texas Instruments have been committed to helping automotive companies build advanced infotainment systems and connected car systems. With this new project, we will extend our cooperation to the growing digital dashboard and ADAS systems In the market. "

QNX operating system technology is designed for low-fault tolerant environments. It has mature control systems in trains, nuclear power plants, wind turbines, medical equipment, process automation systems, and other critical safety applications. For those who must meet stringent availability and reliability requirements As far as the system is concerned, the technology is the cornerstone of field-testing.

QNX software system technology has been widely used in tens of millions of in-vehicle systems worldwide, including digital instrument panels, hands-free systems, multimedia host accessories, connection modules, and 3D navigation systems.

Go public

The QNX automotive safety project for ISO 26262 will be launched in the third quarter of 2013.
