However, for those who were away during the festival, it's common to notice that their water purifier isn't working as expected when they return — the water flow might be weak, or the filter could feel dry. First, open the waste water outlet and let it run for a while. This helps remove any sediment or rust that may have accumulated in the system. Then, open the purified water tap and let it run for a few minutes before using it. This initial flush can clear out any stagnant water and improve the quality of the output.
If the water purifier hasn’t been used for more than 3 days, a quick rinse is enough. But if it’s been unused for over 10 days, it’s better to rinse it thoroughly to remove any leftover water inside. For pressure tank systems, make sure to drain the tank completely.
Long periods of inactivity can cause bacteria to grow inside the filter elements, increasing the risk of nitrite levels rising. To avoid this, always flush the system well before use. Drain the filter and all the remaining water from the pipes, then refill with fresh, clean water.
If the purifier wasn’t used for over a month, it’s possible that mold or bacteria have built up inside. A thorough rinse is essential to prevent secondary contamination. Open the tap, turn on the main water valve, and flush the purified water faucet until the water runs clear and free of foam. Switching between taps during flushing creates a pulsating effect, which enhances the cleaning process.
If the water flow still seems low after rinsing, consider backwashing the filter. This can help remove any buildup and restore performance. It’s also important to check the filter elements regularly. If the purifier has been unused for 5 months or more, the filters may lose their effectiveness. In such cases, replacing the filter is necessary.
If you notice a significant drop in water output — much less than usual or even no water at all — and it doesn’t improve after flushing, it’s time to replace the filter. Similarly, if the ultrafiltration membrane has been dry for more than three months, it may shrink and become damaged beyond recovery. In that case, replacing the membrane is crucial to ensure continued clean water supply.
