Infineon launches "iBadge" device identity management for smart home solutions at the Embedded World Exhibition

On March 2nd, 2015, Munich, Germany – Nuremberg – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) launched a smart home application developed with partners at the Embedded World Exhibition & Conference. iBadge” device identity management solution. In fact, “iBadge” is a plug-and-play solution. In the IoT environment, “iBadge” ensures a secure connection. With iBadge, users can easily and securely access their home network with smartphone apps and cloud services, turn on the heating switch remotely on the way home, or watch surveillance videos during the trip.

In the IoT space, device identity and management are critical to responding to security threats from fake or fake devices. To avoid these threats, mobile devices, smart cars, and home appliances must be checked for security before being allowed to access the connected system. Infineon's OPTIGATM Trust verification chip is the core technology of the “iBadge” solution. When integrated into a smart heating or lighting system or surveillance camera, the security chip will be used to authenticate devices authorized to access the network.

Juergen Spaenkuch, Head of Platform Security at Infineon Technologies AG, said: "Our in-depth system knowledge combined with customized security products ensures that we can help our partners design plug-and-play solutions for smart home applications. 'iBadge' The solution is also a good example of Infineon's product-to-system concept, which benefits our customers and users. They can now easily have a comfortable and safe smart home solution."

According to market analyst firm Gartner, the number of connected devices in the consumer sector is expected to reach 2.9 billion units in 2015, and by 2020 this number will increase to 13 billion.

"iBadge" - a smart home application for cloud-based platforms

Compared to existing solutions, "iBadge" makes device identity management safer and easier, while reducing the amount of manual work in the production process. The iBadge evaluation board is equipped with an IoT System Package (SiP), including a microcontroller unit, a wireless module, a host interface, and an OPTIGA Trust verification chip. As a result, the solution allows IoT device manufacturers and traditional home appliance manufacturers to quickly integrate "iBadge" with their devices.

Infineon Introduces "iBadge" Device Identity Management System for Smart Home Solutions at Embedded World Exhibition

The Infineon OPTIGA Trust verification chip in the "iBadge" solution features a unique chip ID, powerful asymmetric authentication (ECC-163), session key for each application and a dedicated ODC-OPTIGA Trust number certificate. This unique identifier and key are stored in the chip in a highly secure and certified production process.

"iBadge" was designed and developed by IKV-Tech, an embedded security company in Taiwan, in close cooperation with application and cloud service provider Teamsourcing. AcSiP, a chip provider, has expertise in system packaging solutions.
