Huawei's rotating CEO Guo Ping: Huawei will add 13 open labs

On December 20th, Huawei's rotating CEO Guo Ping gave a speech at the 2016 China Mobile Global Partner Conference with the theme of “Great Connection, Big Era, and Win-Win Future”, expounding Huawei's three ecological concepts and saying that it will be new. Add 13 open labs for new areas and vertical businesses to expand the scope of benefit sharing.

I am very happy to participate in this grand event. The hottest words of this year are virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence (VR, AR, AI). The industry may involve a million companies, each of which is competing for each other. The data flow generated by the Pacific Ocean will definitely bring huge benefits to telecom operators. Challenges and opportunities. Today's theme is "Connecting with you, dreams", which is highly compatible with the concept of full connectivity advocated by Huawei. As a strategic partner of China Mobile, I would like to take this opportunity to re-explain Huawei's views on future ecological construction and how we can better support the realization of China Mobile's strategy in the future.

In the past ten years, we have experienced the rapid development of mobile broadband and the Internet industry. Today, we have entered the 2.0 era of the cloud. The Internet of Things, cloud services, and vertical industry are emerging. The society is moving toward digitalization and intelligence. Perception, the interconnection of all things, and the intelligence of all things become the basic characteristics. In this complicated new era, the participation in the construction of ecosystems has become a must for enterprises.

Dear Chairman of the Board, President Li Yue, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Hello everyone!

Technological advances are getting faster and faster, and mutual penetration and integration between different industries is accelerating. We look at this change from the 3G to 5G standard-setting process, which is the transition from technology-driven to ecologically driven. The 3G era is a typical technology driver. After the standard was established and the network was opened, it took us several years to discuss what the key applications of 3G are. The first version of 3G did not even consider mobile broadband Internet access when standards were developed. The situation has been improved in the 4G era. When the standard is set, the rate is increased to 100M, which is comparable to fixed broadband. However, it is still unclear what specific application scenarios exist for this bandwidth. At 5G, the situation is different. In the absence of standards, the requirements white paper has been released. Our accelerator project in Munich is doing joint innovation with major European car manufacturers, and it is necessary to install 8 antennas in the car after 5-10 years. This was unimaginable in the past. The early involvement of the vertical industry and the joint innovation within the ecological scope have gradually become the norm.

This picture refers to the paper by management guru Michael Porter last year, which shows only a simple scene in the agricultural system. As you can see, traditional tractors have also become complicated. Tractor companies, previously only needed to deal with farmers, today, dealing with more interactive systems and institutions, such as meteorological data systems, seed optimization companies, irrigation systems.

With the development of big data, Internet of Things, mobile and cloud services, there has been no interaction between commercial entities that have not been connected before, and there is more interaction. It is impossible to work alone, whether it is a tractor company or an irrigation company, or It is a company that does ICT systems, and there is no way to create this system exclusively. And this is just a small example. The education, transportation, health, etc. in our lives, the complex scenes of these industries will continue to evolve and evolve in the open.

Huawei is committed to creating a better connected world: connectivity, like air and water, will be integrated into every corner of our lives, omnipresent. In order to realize this vision, it is not enough to adopt only our own advanced technologies and solutions. More importantly, we need to have a firm ecological cooperation concept and down-to-earth practice.

The advantage of enterprises in the traditional industrial chain lies in building core competitiveness. The key is the possession and control of core resources. However, with the integration of industry and the upgrading of consumer demand, enterprises must become open and flexible, and establish an ecological advantage for the future. In other words, the advantages of the enterprise will not only come from endogenous advantages, but also from the effective use of external resources.

Next, I would like to elaborate on Huawei's three ecological concepts, “big cakes”, “management cooperation”, and “benefit sharing”, and introduce Huawei's latest developments in platform construction and open laboratories.

The first ecological concept of Huawei in the cloud era is: making bigger cakes, expanding industries, and expanding the market is more important than making our own share. This is not only the only way for Huawei to build its future ecological advantages, but also the responsibility of being an industry leader.

Over the past two decades, Huawei's contribution has been to assist operators such as China Mobile to promote the services enjoyed by a few people in the ivory tower to become universal services around the world. In the future, what we have to do is the digital transformation driven by innovation. A report from the World Economic Forum shows that in the next 10 years, the opportunity for digital transformation of the industry will reach 100 trillion US dollars. Today, a large number of new applications in the world are constantly generating huge data traffic, which poses a huge challenge to the carrying, transmission and experience of the information pipeline, but also provides great opportunities for all parties in the industry.
