PTN application prospect analysis

PTN technology has achieved rapid development since it was proposed, and has become one of the mainstream technologies for IP evolution of local and metropolitan transport networks, and has been widely used in the existing network. Many operators around the world are very fond of PTN technology. They have organized testing and verification of PTN technology and products. Among them, leading operators have begun to build PTN commercial networks for mobile backhaul and the establishment of enterprise private networks. Among them, operators including Vodafone successfully deployed the PTN network in 2008 and achieved good results; from 2008 to 2009, FT / Orange, Telefonica / O2, T-Mobile and other multinational operators ranked TOP10 in the global ranking , Have also introduced PTN for the construction of mobile bearer networks.

In China, China Mobile invested 3 billion yuan to build PTN in 2009. Industry insiders predict that China Mobile ’s investment in PTN will exceed 5 billion yuan in 2010, and it has begun centralized procurement and testing in May 2010. China Telecom and China Unicom have also conducted active research and testing on PTN technology, and are actively promoting the trial commercialization process.

2 Domestic PTN test situation

(1) Test situation of China Mobile

China Mobile has organized three rounds of PTN technology tests in 2008-2009. The test content includes full service support, management and maintenance, clock, stress test, equipment and network security, etc. The test manufacturers include FiberHome, Huawei, ZTE, Alang, Thai Lehe UT etc.

The first round: from August to September 2008, the telemetry research institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology hosted a thorough test of PTN technology and products, including full service support, OAM, QoS, protection switching, synchronization and other details; 2008 In October, PTN tested with MSTP and routers; in November 2008, PTN tested with 2G / 3G base stations.

The second round: from mid-March to the end of April 2009, for live network testing. It can also be divided into two stages. The first stage is to verify the feasibility and difference of various packet metropolitan area network technologies in the single-vendor networking mode, focusing on verifying that the network carries actual base station services and full services in the complex environment of the existing network. The third round: from May to June 2009, the PTN interconnection test of various manufacturers. In September 2009, China Mobile conducted pre-collection type selection tests for PTN, increased the number of full-configuration LSPs, stress tests, dual-homing protection and other items and power consumption tests; in October 2009, China Mobile conducted time synchronization between PTN and base stations Testing; In December 2009, China Mobile conducted time synchronization interoperability testing.

In May 2010, China Mobile organized the 2010 PTN equipment centralized procurement test.

(2) Test situation of China Telecom

From July to August 2009, China Telecom organized a PTN test, which included full service support, OAM, QoS, protection switching, synchronization and other details. The test manufacturers were Fiberhome, Huawei, ZTE, Aran and UT, etc .; 2009 From October to January 2010, a live network pilot was conducted.

(3) Test situation of China Unicom

From November to December 2009, the first phase test of China Unicom; January 2010, the second phase test; April 2010, restart the interconnection and interoperability test. The participating manufacturers are FiberHome, Huawei, ZTE, Aran and UT.

China Unicom's testing includes two parts: function and performance testing, interworking and business scenario testing. Among them, the former includes service bearer, service performance, label processing capability, network protection, QoS function, OAM function, device capability, packet clock function, network management, control plane function test, a total of 10 parts; the latter includes PTN equipment interoperability test , PTN and MSTP equipment interoperability test, PTN and IP data equipment interoperability networking test, PTN and WCDMA network interoperability networking test plan, PTN integrated service bearer test plan a total of 5 parts.

(4) Test situation of PTT series products of FiberHome

3 PTN domestic domestic network application situation

(1) China Mobile

The typical networking of a large local or metropolitan bearer network is shown in Figure 1: 3G base station services are connected to the PTN access ring through the FE optical / electrical interface. Usually, the PTN access ring is networked at the GE rate. In a conditional network, the GE access ring is usually connected to the aggregation ring with two nodes, and the aggregation ring is transparently transmitted to the core layer PTN equipment through the core / backbone layer OTN through the GE / 10GE interface. The core layer equipment is connected to the RNC through the GE optical interface to realize the backhaul bearer from the base station to the RNC.

This networking mode can use full-range LSP 1 + 1/1: 1 end-to-end protection, similar to the MSTP full-range channel protection method, to achieve network protection of the entire network of the bearer network. The core / backbone layer PTN equipment and RNC can also realize the protection of the connection between PTN and RNC through dual-homing protection. 3G and private line services are directly connected to the PTN network through the FE optical / electrical interface on the PTN access device; services such as 2M or STN-1 are connected to the PTN network through the emulation disk on the PTN access device.

In a small local or metropolitan area bearer network, there may also be no OTN equipment at the core / backbone layer, and the PTN convergence ring directly interfaces with the core layer PTN.

(2) China Telecom and China Unicom

While China Telecom and China Unicom are actively organizing tests, they have also actively promoted commercial trials in various places, all using PTN to carry 3G and private line services.

Figure 2 shows a schematic diagram of the PTN equipment used in China Telecom or China Unicom to carry the base station backhaul and fixed access services at the same time. It can be seen from the figure that the PTN equipment can simultaneously access the base station E1 circuit, base station FE circuit, and AG service , OLT voice services, Internet cafe basic data services and customer dedicated line services, etc., can well meet the needs of China Telecom, China Unicom's existing network and subsequent network development.
