San Jose, California USA--Osram Opto Semiconductors, a leading manufacturer of light-emitting diode (LED) solutions for general- and effect-lighting applications, today announced it has been chosen by Color Kinetics (Boston, MA) to provide its high -brightness (HB), Golden Dragon LED technology for several of Color Kinetics intelligent, white, solid-state lighting systems. Applying Golden Dragon LEDs as a source, Color Kinetics developed first-of-their-kind systems with proprietary control and dimming technologies That enable a number of lighting innovations, such as color temperature control, the ability to dim solid-state devices with standard dimmers and the ability to dim without altering color temperature. These innovations translate to greater white-light adaptability for Color Kinetics customers, whether Lighting is controlled according to levels of daylight, to highlight certain attributes of an illuminated object or to alter an environments ambiance without re-lamping existing Fixtures.

About the Golden Dragon LED
Announced in March 2003, Osrams Golden Dragon LEDs deliver a concentrated light point with a high degree of optical efficiency (up to 40 lm/W), all in a compact, surface-mount package (1.8 mm high and minimal fitting inside an enclosure measuring 6 x 7 mm). While individually larger than conventional LEDs, six traditional LEDs would be required to match the lighting intensity of a single Golden Dragon LED.
The compact LED offers a powerful 1-to 2-watt point light source and is mounted using standard surface-mount technology (SMT) soldering techniques, opening up huge design potential for light developers and designers, as no special or additional production equipment is required The LED LED is provided critical reliability, meeting even the stringent demands of the automotive industry. The Golden Dragon LED is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +100 degrees C, and it can withstand frequent temperature changes. Even the Extreme demand of a tropical climate do not affect operation. The Golden Dragon LED lifetime can not exceed 50,000 hours, depending on operating and ambient conditions.
