ANADIGICS announces the introduction of the APS3604 active splitter for multi-tuner TV and set-top box devices. This highly integrated 5 x 5mm device replaces discrete low noise amplifiers (LNAs) and split circuits, and provides output channels that support two to three tuner systems with signal frequencies up to 1.1 GHz. The device helps reduce the number of components required for a multi-tuner set-top box with picture-in-picture capability, multi-tuner set-top box with personal video recording (PVR) and digital video recording (DVR), saving board space.The APS3604 amplifies the balanced RF input signal in the 50MHz to 1.1GHz frequency range with a highly linear low noise amplifier stage and splits the signal into three equalized outputs. Each channel has independent gain control, eliminating the need for front-end gain control in the tuner. The bus quality of each tuner channel is maintained within a wide gain control range, ensuring low distortion for each independently controlled output signal. ANADIGICS's active splitter has a noise figure of only 4.8dB at maximum gain, requiring only a single +5V supply.
